The easy exercises that figure in each chapter help listeners experience the ideas that Singer presents.1. Throughout, the book maintains a light and engaging tone, free from heavy dogma and prescriptive religious references. And finally, in part five, Singer returns to daily life and the pursuit of unconditional happiness. Enlightenment, the embrace of universal consciousness, is the subject of part four. Ways to overcome tendencies to close down to the rest of the world are the subject of part three. #The untethered soul oprah how toPart two examines the experience of energy as it flows through us and works to show listeners how to open their hearts to the energy of experience that permeates their lives. In part one, Singer examines the notion of self and the inner dialogue we all live with. By tapping into traditions of meditation and mindfulness, Singer shows how the development of consciousness can enable us all to dwell in the present moment and let go of painful thoughts and memories that keep us from achieving happiness and self-realization.The Untethered Soul offers a frank and friendly discussion of consciousness and how we can develop it. Singer explores the question of who we are and arrives at the conclusion that our identity is to be found in our consciousness, the fact of our ability to observe ourselves, and the world around us. In The Untethered Soul, spiritual teacher Michael A. Are you a physical body? A collection of experiences and memories? A partner to relationships? Each time you consider these aspects of yourself, you realize that there is much more to you than any of these can define. Who are you? When you start to explore this question, you find out how elusive it really is. In 1941, Shahid Khan ( Jaideep Ahlawat), a Pathan, takes advantage of the mysteriousness of the faceless dacoit, Sultana, a Qureshi, by impersonating his identity to rob British ferry trains. The region was the domain of the faceless dacoit Sultana Qureshi who robbed British trains in the night and thus held some patriotic value for the locals. The village has been historically dominated by the Qureshi Muslims, a sub-caste of animal butchers who are feared by the non-Qureshi Muslims living there and Dhanbad by extension.ĭuring British colonial rule, the British had seized the farm lands of Dhanbad for coal which began the business of coal mining in Dhanbad. In 2000, Wasseypur and Dhanbad were redistricted for a second time into the newly formed state of Jharkhand where they remain. After India gained independence in 1947, they were carved out of Bengal and redistricted into the state of Bihar in 1956. During the British Raj, Wasseypur and Dhanbad were located in the Bengal region. Nasir's narration describes the history and nature of Wasseypur. The whole scene is then revealed in the sequel. The scene cuts abruptly for a prologue by the narrator, Nasir ( Piyush Mishra). Singh (Satya Anand) that the family has been successfully executed but he is double crossed by JP as a firefight erupts between them and a police check post blocking their escape route. The leader ( Pankaj Tripathi) informs minister J.P. After heavy firing on the house, they retreat from the crime scene in a vehicle, convinced they have killed everyone within. They surround the house and unleash a wave of bullets and grenades on it with the intention of killing the family inside it. In January 2004, a gang of heavily armed men scour and finally narrow down on a house in Wasseypur. 1.2 Introduction of Wasseypur and Dhanbad.Īlthough not an individual financial success, it is a combined gross of ₹50.81 crore that facilitated a modest commercial return due to its certificate Gangs of Wasseypur – Part 1 also won four Filmfare Awards, including the Critics Award for Best Film, while Chadda won the Critics Award for Best Actress, at the 58th Filmfare Awards. It received nominations for Best Film and Best Director for Kashyap at the 55th Asia-Pacific Film Festival, and won for Best Audiography at the 60th National Film Awards, while Siddiqui won a Special Mention for acting at the same ceremony. Upon release, Gangs of Wasseypur – Part 1 received critical acclaim, and won a number of awards. The film was theatrically released on 22 June 2012, but was banned in Kuwait and Qatar for violent content. It was filmed in Varanasi, Bihar, and Chunar, with these settings inspiring the film's soundtrack, which consists mainly of Indian folk. It was also screened at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2013. Gangs of Wasseypur was screened in its entirety at the 2012 Cannes Directors' Fortnight, marking one of the only Hindi-language films to achieve this. Part 1 stars an ensemble cast, featuring Manoj Bajpayee, Richa Chadda, Reema Sen, Piyush Mishra, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Vineet Kumar Singh, Pankaj Tripathi, Huma Qureshi, Anurita Jha and Tigmanshu Dhulia.Īlthough both parts were shot as a single film measuring a total of 319 minutes, no Indian theatre would screen a five-hour film, so it was divided into two parts. It is the first installment of the Gangs of Wasseypur series, centered on the coal mafia of Dhanbad, and the underlying power struggles, politics and vengeance between three crime families from 1941 to the mid-1990s. Gangs of Wasseypur – Part 1 (stylised as Gangs of वासेपुर) is a 2012 Indian Hindi-language crime action film directed by Anurag Kashyap, and written by Kashyap and Zeishan Quadri. 'Ship of Theseus', with its theme ofillness, healing, and renewal, is held up as a cinematic exemplar of the transitions that mankind is witnessing today as it sits on the brink of a process that could change it beyond recognition.₹27.85 crore (US$3.7 million) He regards 'Reason' as one of the most significant documentary films of our times and identifies a ‘moment’ in Patwardhan's film as ‘one of the bravest. To Cousins, ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ is one of the most complex gangster films in the 80 years since the birth of the genre. From India, the documentary cites Anurag Kashyap's 'Gangs of Wasseypur' movies, Rajkumar Hirani's 'PK', Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Goliyon ki Rasleela Ram-Leela', Anand Gandhi's 'Ship of Theseus' and Anand Patwardhan's documentary 'Reason' among the most important films of the current era. For some reason, it does feel like some of the special moves are a little bit tougher to execute than in the past and if you don't perform them just right, you won't pull it off. #Tekken 3 soundtracks seriesT3 follows the same formula that has made the series so successful. I hate combos because developers tend to try and one-up the last effort and the whole combo thing has gotten way out of hand. One of the things that has always made these games good is that they don't rely on a combo system for cool moves. Of course there are plenty of new moves to learn but your old favorites are also still here. That means that if you have played the other games, you should feel right at home behind the controller. This game follows the traditional Tekken move layout. Strangely, Jack is now only available after being unlocked. This is not particularly hard to do and it is very rewarding when you unlock the new fighters. As with the previous versions of the game, if you play through to the end with one character, you will unlock a new character. Some of the new characters include Eddy Gordo, the reggae, break dancing fighter and Ling Xiaoyu, a hyperactive martial artist. The game has a great mix of your old favorites like Yoshimitsu (who looks bad-ass), Paul, King and Nina Williams. Let's just say that this is truer than ever. One thing that has always been cool about this series is that the characters all have their own unique style, look and personalities. Speaking of the characters, this game has plenty. This was a pretty cool addition to the game but remember, it is only accessible after you finish the game with all of the characters. Also, you can super charge the ball so if your opponent touches it, they will lose some life. If the ball lands on your side, your life will go down as if being hit. You will play against another character and the object is to keep a ball from landing on your side of the court. The idea of this game is similar to volleyball. The second new mode is called the Tekken Ball mode. Unfortunately, this was easier said than done. They tried to make it 3D so you were supposed to be able to go in and out of the screen. It was really cool playing outside of the traditional fighting arena but the problem was that the maneuvering of your character was difficult to say the least. This was a great idea that just did not quite click (one of the few complaints about the game). You can select your favorite character and see if you can bash your way through four different sections. This is a side-scrolling beat-em-up ala Fighting Force. The first is called the Tekken Force mode. These new additions are what I will talk about because your old favorites are as flawless as ever. All of the standard modes you would expect are here with a couple of new additions. Namco has done a great job in developing new game modes to keep the fighting genre fresh and this game is no exception. Let's start with the different game modes. With that in mind, I will try to expand on things a bit more, but be forewarned - you just really have to see and play this game to understand why it is so good. People keep asking me what makes it better that T2 and the only answer I can come up with is that it is just better and you just have to see it and play it to understand. This game is especially hard to review because Tekken 2 was such a good game. Unfortunately I can't get away with saying only this and besides, it really would not do this game justice. Thank you, tip your waitresses, good night. I mean, how much can you say about a fighting game? You try to knock the other guy down before he knocks you down. For those of us who have been around since the beginning, Tekken 3 will not disappoint.įighting games are usually the hardest for me to review. This is the best fighting game released to date so it is time for you to pry the controller out of your hand and go pick it up. If you are one of the two or three PlayStation owners who have not seen, played or at least heard of Tekken, your time has finally come. If you now think “but they still don’t know who I am” – think again. All that is connected to a number of attributes allowing Avast to recognize you reliably, even a unique user identifier. Tracking tab and window identifiers as well as your actions allows Avast to create a nearly precise reconstruction of your browsing behavior: how many tabs do you have open, what websites do you visit and when, how much time do you spend reading/watching the contents, what do you click there and when do you switch to another tab. The data collected here goes far beyond merely exposing the sites that you visit and your search history. It also seems that for paying Avast customers the identifier of the Avast account would be transmitted as well. That’s why I decided to stop the extension in the debugger and have a look at the data before it is turned into binary. Finally, there are “custom values” there as well which are a completely arbitrary key/value collection. Also, some fields appear to be unused, and the purpose of others isn’t obvious. It is rather extensive however, with a number of fields being nested types. The binary UrlInfoRequest data structure used here can be seen in the extension source code. This one will send every single link found on this page, be it a search result or an internal link of the search engine. And there is an additional request if you are on a search page. This request isn’t merely sent when you navigate to a page, it also happens whenever you switch tabs. The rest of the data is somewhat harder to interpret, I’ll get to it soon. #Avast online security add on full#You can clearly see the full address of the page in the binary data, including query part and anchor. The response is then translated into the extension icon to be displayed for the page. So the extension sends some binary data and in return gets information on whether the page is malicious or not. If you do it with Avast Online Security, you will see a request to whenever a new page loads in a tab: Using browser’s developer tools you can look at an extension’s network traffic. Storing the data is considered unproblematic due to anonymization (I disagree), and Avast doesn’t make any statements explaining just how long it holds on to it. The amount of data being sent goes far beyond what’s necessary for the extension to function, especially if you compare to competing solutions such as Google Safe Browsing.Īvast Privacy Policy covers this functionality and claims that it is necessary to provide the service. In the process, it will transmit data that allows reconstructing your entire web browsing history and much of your browsing behavior. When Avast Online Security extension is active, it will request information about your visited websites from an Avast server. Isn’t this necessary for the extension to do its job?. Raw and perfectly sculpted, Lana infused every moment with uncensored emotion, tapping into her fans’ feelings at the same time. She has come a long way since the success of Born To Die: building from a cottage-industry talent into one of the biggest stars in the world, she can now command the attention of the era-defining artists that came before her (2017’s Lust For Life found her working with no less than Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks).Īs arguably the most powerful moment in her career, however, Born To Die still resonates. She also referenced the book’s opening in the “Off To The Races” lyric “Light of my life, fire in my loins.”īut the controversy did little to derail the singer – rather, it aided Lana’s ascent. A new song by Lana Del Rey has been teased in a clip from the next episode of Euphoria. Lana created some controversy with the track “Lolita” with its obvious references to the Vladimir Nabokov novel centered around a middle-aged man obsessed with the young girl of the title. #New lana del rey movie#The song also contains powerful lyrics about the importance of love over everything else (“’Cause I’ma ride or die/Whether you fail or fly/… I will love you till the end of time”), and includes a by-now habitual Hollywood reference – in this case, 50s movie star James Dean.īorn To Die isn’t all glamour, however. Referencing one of her biggest influences, hip-hop (“You were sort of punk rock, I grew up on hip-hop”), “Blue Jeans” emerged as the album’s third single, in April 2012, and found Lana’s trademark sultry vocals riding a guitar bassline and a hip-hop beat, punctuated by a sample of Rick James shouting “sing” to a crowd. The building’s glamour pervaded other areas of Born To Die: many of the album’s songs revel in the mystique of celebrity, invoke Hollywood landmarks such as the Chateau Marmont, or nod to 60s movie stars and the monied inhabitants of LA and The Hamptons. Shot at the Palace Of Fontainebleau, the “Born To Die” clip marked the first time that filming had been allowed in the château, which had been home to the royal family for seven centuries. Lana’s haunting vocals hadn’t always been so distinctive, but as she told the Daily Star in 2011, “People weren’t taking me seriously, so I lowered my voice, believing it would help me stand out.” Molding herself after vulnerable feminine icons such as Marilyn Monroe, the breathy tone she developed ensured she would be noticed.īorn To Die’s title track became the album’s second single, released in December 2011, with a video by French director and songwriter Yoann Lemoine. Lana’s stripped-back music, performed with live instrumentation and unique vocals, offered them the sound they were looking for the purity of emotion she drew upon added that extra depth for fans to identify with.Īlexandra Shulman, editor of British Vogue’s 2012 Lana Del Rey cover issue, explained why the singer stood out among the pack, holding her own against the juggernaut success of Adele’s 21: “I am one of the many thousands of people enraptured by the throaty, seductive voice of Lana Del Rey… Once I had seen Lana play at a small event in London, I was convinced that she would be a great.” With the likes of Katy Perry and Britney Spears still dominating pop music in the early 21st Century, a younger generation of fans entered the 2010s seeking something new. With subsequent albums like 2019's Grammy-nominated Norman Fucking Rockwell! and 2021's Blue Banisters, Del Rey grew more and more into the. Following a hit remix of her single "Summertime Sadness," she steadily gained not only popularity but respect her second album, 2014's Ultraviolence, received positive reviews to accompany her sales, and her imitators (of which there were many) became merely an alluring accessory. At first, her stylized noir-pop garnered skeptical sneers - the rise of her 2012 debut, Born to Die, was impeded by a tentative live debut on Saturday Night Live - but Del Rey proved to be tougher than her soft exterior suggested. Lana Del Rey envisioned a Southern California dream world constructed out of sad girls and bad boys, manufactured melancholy, and genuine glamour, and then she came to embody this fantasy. I put that in quotes because a disgIron Man 2tled filmgoer behind me broadcasted those exact words across the theater as the credits for this film rolled. The modern horror fan goes to their local theater and parts with their money on the expectation that their selected horror film will deliver the goods, so to speak: startle them a sufficient number of times (scaling appropriately with the film'sAIron Man 2time, of course) and give them the money shots (blood, gore, graphic murders, well-lit and up-close views of the applicable CGI monster etc.) If a horror movie fails to deliver those goods, it's scoffed at and falls into the worst film I've ever seen category.
